I attended High School in both Costa Rica and North Carolina. My family traveled quite a bit as I was growing up. I attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where I earned my BS in Psychology. I then worked with the Developmentally Disabled population for a few years before I returned to Bradley to get a Master of Arts degree in Human Development Counseling. I worked for several social service agencies in Illinois and Florida, mostly working with children and their families, before opening my Private Practice in Springfield, IL, in 2004.
I attended multiple trainings and received consultation to become certified as an EMDR (eye movement, desensitization and processing) trained therapist, then later became a certified consultant through EMDRIA. I have advanced training in therpeutic hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). I am a Reiki Master, a Shamanic Minister, a Shamanic Breathwork Facilitator, and a SoulCollage Facilitator. I completed a doctoral program and earned a degree in PsychoSpiritual Studies.
I have also written and partially illustrated three children's books, WooHoo For Sensitive Somjay, Feel Your Feelings Feel Them All, and The Tree You See , all available on Amazon . You can also hear me read Woohoo for Somjay to you on YouTube.
I have contributed a chapter in six different collaborative books, Shaman Heart - Turning Pain into Passion and Purpose (Chapter 10, 2022), The Chaos of Covid (Chapter 8, 2022), Shaman Heart - Sacred Rebel (Chapter 10, 2023), Mystic Memoirs Volume I - Beyond belief experiences (pages 220-242, 2023), The Mystic's Pen - Portals (pages 1-26 and pages 139-151, 2024), and Mystic Memoirs Volume II - Stories of Beyond Belief Experiences (pages 75-89, 2025), also available on Amazon.
About the initials behind my name:
The MA represents the Master of Arts degree I earned.
The DPsS represents the doctoral degree I earned in PsychoSpiritual Studies..
The LCPC represents that I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor through the State of Illinois.
I believe my job as a therapist is to provide unconditional positive regard and support without judgment. I also believe my clients deserve the best me I can be. To this end, I regularly attend workshops and trainings so I have some of the most up to date treatment options available. I also work on practicing what I preach. I think it is important for you to take care of yourself, so I take care of myself. I think it is important for you to be self aware, so I work on my own self awareness. I think it's important to seek help when needed, so I seek help when I need it. I believe we get back what we send out into the universe, so I work hard on sending out positive energy. I have so much to give and I feel so blessed to be able to work in a career that I love with my incredible clients.
